About Us

About Us

Since 1996, we have enjoyed a significant internet presence. We published the first - the original, Backpacking Lightweight website in February 1996 and today, that website - www.backpacking.net - is one of the most visited of hiking and backpacking sites.

Our desire for this website - www.hiking.biz - is to focus very narrowly on our love of hiking - period. Whether you carry a heavy pack, light pack or no pack, this site is for you.

Our goal is to present a simple, informative, attractive, and different kind of outdoor gear store, where we not only sell hiking equipment, but also provide information and guidance needed for successful and safe backcountry travel.

We are satisfied that we are achieving our goal and hope you think so too!

Charles

My hiking, these days, is mostly in the Washington Cascades - north, central and western. Some of my favorite hikes are close to home - Mt. Dickerman, Vesper Peak (see favorite hikes in the This n' That section).

Jamie & Clayton

Clayton, five years old in this picture, loves hiking, backpacking and fishing. This was his first backpack trip and he did very well hiking the six miles to our campsite (an elevation gain of 2500 feet). This year, he'll be carrying his own gear, in his own pack.

Josh

Josh at the summit of Mt. Pilchuck which is located at the western-most edge of the Washington Cascades.

Josh likes the obscure, less defined, less traveled trails and doesn't mind a bit of bushwhacking.
